The ego is always carefully planning activities and setting goals, and of course we always hope that it all goes smoothly according to plan. Then Blam! We are struck by the most unexpected occurrence that forces us to improvise to avoid our carefully laid plans all coming apart at the seams. “Why?” we ask? Why did this have to happen NOW, at this most inopportune time?
Sometimes in the background the tension leading to the unexpected development has been building for years, but we did not want to face or even acknowledge it.
The materialist view is that it happens that way merely by chance. However, if we look below the surface we can see that intentions at our soul level are in conflict with our ego desires. If we introspectively review past life events that mirror this pattern, we can see that the challenges that we did not want to face forced us to grow in ways that we could not have anticipated at the time.
So when the unexpected and unwanted happens, ask yourself what the moment is requiring of you, and how you can face it with your “better self.” Trust in the process and remember that though you think you are in control of your life, the Divine has other plans for you.
